Meet Emily

Hi there, my name is Emily Foster and I am a nutritionist and registered dietitian in the UK and Canada with a special interest in gut health for perimenopause, menopause and women’s health. Before I jump into the fun stuff, because nutrition is a minefield, I want you to know that you’re in safe hands. I have a Bachelor’s of Applied Science degree in Human Nutrition (a 4-year degree) followed by a one-year Applied Dietetics Internship run by a hospital & regional health authority, plus 10 years of experience.

Outside of my credentials, from a very personal perspective, I know what it’s like to deal with the crappy (pun absolutely intended) symptoms that come along with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and SIBO. The physical and emotional exhaustion that flare-ups can elicit as well as the disheartening feeling that things that were going so well just aren’t anymore and you’re left to go back to square one with symptom management.

It’s my personal and professional experience that makes me so passionate about this area of nutrition.

I believe in a holistic approach to health with lifestyle and nutrition both playing their part. I talk a lot about mindfulness and stress management during my sessions as this is a large part of taming a rebellious gut. I am trained in CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) for the management of hot flushes and night sweats, am an aspiring yoga teacher, a reiki level 2 practitioner and have taken the course “Mindfulness for Life” by Oxford University’s ‘Oxford Mindfulness Centre’.

If any of this sounds a bit ‘woo woo’ to you - do not be alarmed (I call this the “magic” 🔮). I have simply been on my own “gut journey” and want to bring what has helped me, to you, should it serve you.

I’ve worked with the media in Canada and the UK, featured as a nutrition expert on shows such as BBC One (The One Show), Global Morning News, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Express and trade media such as Food Matters Live and The Grocer. I love sharing my knowledge of nutrition with people in a way that’s practical and easy to understand.

I am also the founder of the women’s nutrition consultancy, Glowing Potential, founded in 2017, as well as A Gutsy Menopause®. With my nutrition consultancy and team of dietitians at Glowing Potential, recent projects have included designing, implementing and delivering a digital Healthy Pregnancy Program that was commissioned by WW, Hampshire and Hertfordshire County Councils to provide services to all NHS trusts in the area. My team and I also worked with the University of Cambridge and WW on the diabetes study, GLoW, as the dietitian and nutrition support providers. A slightly more fun fact about me is that I am a Great Taste Awards Judge with the Guild of Fine Food!

Having started my career with Canada’s largest Grocery and Pharmacy retailer, Loblaw, as an In-Store Dietitian - I have always had an appreciation for taking the science of nutrition and translating it into something everyone can take home and implement in their day-to-day lives. I completed my education, a 4-year Bachelors of Applied Science in Human Nutrition in 2012 at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada (known as “Canada’s Food & Agricultural Science University”). My Clinical Dietetics Internship took me to the East Coast of Canada to the Nova Scotia Health Authority, where I completed a year of practical clinical training in the hospitals and community. I am registered with professional healthcare bodies in both Canada and the United Kingdom and provide nutrition services for clients worldwide.

If you’d like to know more, please connect with me on LinkedIn or send me an email. I would love to hear from you.
