The One-Stop Guide: Menopause
By Kathy Abernethy

Why this book is a great read:

🌟ONE: It’s easy to understand. Jargon-free - THANK GOODNESS!

🌟TWO: it’s evidence-based. Kathy knows. her. stuff. She’s a menopause nurse, an elected chair of the British Menopause Society, works in an award-winning NHS menopause team, and she trains other nurses on menopause care. Basically, you’re in *very* safe hands.

🌟THREE: Truthfully? It’s the most comprehensive menopause guide that you will ACTUALLY read. At least I think so.

Some of my fave takeaways:

Re: Your Bones 🦴 🏴‍☠️
“You will be unaware of the deterioration, but there are some warning signs: previous fracture, low BMI, Family history, medications, smoking, alcohol and early menopause.” *more detail is given in the book.

Top tip: Vitamin D is key. Consider a supplement of Vitamin D all year round if you spend most of your time inside or if you have a dark skin tone: 10 micrograms per day.

Re: Your Heart ❤️💙
“Heart disease affects more women every year than breast cancer, yet heart disease is still considered a ‘man’s disease.”

Top Tip: Know your cholesterol levels. I’m a huge advocate of people knowing their numbers. It’s so empowering to see a change in our bloodwork when we make lifestyle changes as we often ONLY look at weight.
